Seven Nô Masks (msbb)

Since last week msbb exhibits a showcase containing 7 ancient Nô masks in Sokrates Space. Nô appears in Japan at the end of the fourteenth century; it is the heir of the most ancient forms of Japanese theatre. There are four masks families: elderly men (Jô), women (Onna), men (Otoko) and demons (Oni). Each of these categories includes 4 to 5 different variants which allow to represent almost all of the Nô repertory itself. It is noted that traditionally, only the main character of the representation (Shite's) is wearing a mask. From left to right: Kotobide, Shikami, Yase-otoko, Hannya, Ko-Jo, Deigan, Ayakashi.
