SoKrates Room
The Gallery of the 5 Continents
Sokrates is conceived as a contemporary cabinet of curiosities: a space where wonder arises not from accumulation, but from relationships. Embedded within a Gesamtkunstwerk, the gallery functions as a living organism in which each element forms part of a unified experience.
In this space, works from different periods and regions of the world converge, brought together not by chronology or geography, but by aesthetic, formal, and conceptual affinities. Their juxtaposition generates an open narrative: each work leads to the next through associations of ideas, gestures, and materials, inviting unexpected connections between cultures, times, and ways of seeing.
The visitor’s path proposes a cross-dialogue among the various components that make up the space. The works respond to one another, mirror each other, and create tensions, forming a photogenic and metaphorical fabric that stimulates the senses and the imagination. Rather than offering answers, Sokrates invites active contemplation, associative thinking, and discovery, placing the visitor at the center of an experience that celebrates the diversity of the world as a form of unity.

James Turrell, “Juke Blue”, 1968
The Sa Bassa Blanca Museum has been enriched with a masterpiece, installed in the SoKraTes Space since spring 2017: “Juke Blue” by James Turrell. Fifty-seven years after its creation, this iconic work offers visitors the exceptional opportunity to enjoy this marvellous piece in Mallorca. A unique experience that will immerse the viewer in a deep state of contemplation, typical of Turrell’s works. The work on display is a clear reflection of this renowned artist’s vision.
“Without object, without image and without focus, what do you see? You see yourself, looking at yourself. My desire is to create a situation to which I take you and let you see. It becomes your experience.”
