From March 2nd to July 7th, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech will host "Cactus," an exhibition co-curated by Marc Jeanson, a botanist from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, and Laurent Le Bon, President of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Artist Yannick Vu, co-founder of the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum, will exhibit "Cactus en Fruit," a 1983 oil on canvas work inspired by this curious plant.
Cacti have been objects of fascination for over five centuries in Europe. Spontaneously present in arid areas of our planet, they constitute a subject of study to understand the progressive diffusion of the exuberance of tropical flowers in the West through expeditions, explorations, and the explosion of horticulture in the 19th century.
As works of art, these plants are collected and are the origin of notable gardens such as the Cacti garden of Creismeas in Brittany, the Cactus Garden of César Manrique in Lanzarote, or the collection of the Huntington Gardens in San Marino near Los Angeles.
On the island of Mallorca, specifically in Las Salinas, there are two enormous cactus gardens, the Botanicactus, covering 150,000 m², and another impressive collection of cacti, possibly one of the most complete in the world, belonging to the Juan March Foundation.
The distinctive aesthetic of cacti has fascinated many artists and has traversed the history of graphic arts, including photography and painting. Artists such as Picasso, Scholz, Atget, Man Ray, Renger-Patzsch, or Wolfgang Tillmans have made these plants subjects of preference.
"Cactus" is an exhibition of these plant species and aims to showcase the extraordinary diversity of cacti and succulent plants through a wide variety of artistic expressions in dialogue.
Under the title "Music of the Mind," the Tate Modern in London will showcase Yoko Ono's creations in various disciplines until September 1st, offering a unique perspective on the influential artist's more than seven decades of work. Featuring over 200 pieces, the exhibition provides a comprehensive portrait of the artist through installations, objects, videos, photographs, sculptures, documents on her performances, music, and artistic endeavors throughout her career. This retrospective is the most extensive ever held in the UK about her.
Since the 1950s, with her early exhibitions in New York, Yoko Ono has been associated with conceptualism, a movement that advocates for the idea that the concepts behind a work carry more weight than the work itself, emphasizing the importance of the meaning the artist intends to convey.

The Yannick and Ben Jakober Foundation, active since 1994, is pleased to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year, marked by various events that began last Saturday, February 24th, with the celebration of the Day of the Balearic Islands, during which we had an influx of over 3,000 visitors. Attendees were able to visit, free of charge, the NINS portrait collection, the Sokrates room, the sculpture park, and the rose garden.
Additionally, during the event, families enjoyed "Smoke Signals," a colorful smoke flare spectacle inspired by the "Smoke Towers" project, for which artist Ben Jakober won the Special Pilar Juncosa and Sotheby's Prize in 1993, awarded by the Pilar i Joan Miró Foundation.
We would like to thank everyone who made this day possible. Special thanks to Ms. Àngela Amer Mir, Councilor for Culture and Festivals, and Ms. Margalida Ferriol Gual, Councilor for Cultural Heritage of the Alcúdia City Council, who enjoyed the show along with the rest of the attendees.
